-- These guys put up the 1st RPGMaker FAQ and I referenced some

and updated the answers to them. Thanks to everyone who made this FAQ!!!

======What is RPG
Maker?======
This particular RPG Maker is for the PSX and
is made by Agetec. It allows us to create RPGs, including the monsters,
characters, system, storyline, cut scenes, and more. It also includes
Anime Maker.
======What is this site
all about?======
The main function of this site is for the
trading, downloading, and showcasing of RPGs made with RPG Maker. Each
game gets individual in depth coverage (w/ pics, descriptions, and
reviews by fellow visitors), and the in-game graphics are also supplied
for your convenience. It also focuses on the creation process, which
includes at least 1 new tip every week supplied by me and our visitors.
======When is the game
coming out?======
Late September/ Early October is most
likely, and October 2nd has been mentioned many times. This period of
time is confirmed by Agetec, but nothing is concrete since it is a
licensing issue.
======How can you trade
saves with PSX?======
You need a Dex Drive, which is only $20,
and is well worth it.
======What is the Anime
Maker?======
This in-game drawing tool is much like
Mario Paint for the SNES, and it lets you port over monsters,
characters, and title screens to your RPG. You can also create your own
frame by frame animations with it, but those cannot be ported over.
Whether or not you can port over your own spell graphics is still
unknown.
======How many (fill in
the blank) are there to use?======
60 character graphics
99 monster graphics
30 magic graphics
99 event graphics
247 custom dungeon
images
26 dungeon backgrounds
251 field-map images
assign 16 special
abilities to each of your characters
change the message
speed (thank god!!!)
======How will it
use the Memory Cards?======
One memory card will be the
"system", or "game data" card. This will contain the
backbone of your RPG, like what monsters there are, how powerful they are,
weapons, armor, etc. It takes care of all the gameplay elements. The
second card is the "scenario card," which contains all the
"story" information so to speak...cut scenes, dialouge, quests,
sub quests. In essence, you can have many "scenario" cards as
chapters based on one "system" card, working like chapters. This
is where the Dex Drive will really come in handy.
======Can you use a
Mouse or Keyboard?======
There will be no keyboard coming out for
the PSX for RPG Maker, but the creation process IS mouse compatible. The
RPGs themselves must be played with a gamepad.
===Can you name items,
characters, weapons and towns?===
Yes to all three.
======Is there any FMV
available for our RPG's?======
No.
======Can I create my
own music?======
No. However, you control what music goes
where, and there are plenty of cool tunes to choose from.
======Are there
Vehicles in it?======
Yes, vehicles are used in the game,
although it is not known what type of vehicles will be included in the
game.
======Can I animate my
characters?======
By default for one character's animation,
all you can create is them walking and view from different angles. In
theory, for a cut scene, you could replace that character with, say a
"surprised version" of that character by replacing that
character with another for a moment. Whether or not this will be a good
technique or not depends on how many characters are in your game, and
how much room is available in the character slot available to port over.
======How does the
battle system work?======
It's turn-based combat, which means you
exchange hits and it is not based on the speed of your decisions.
Characters are not viewable in battle, but the monsters fighting you
are. Spell and attack effects are all viewable. For a better idea of
what it's like, it is very comparable to Earthbound on the SNES and the
Dragon Warrior series on the NES.
======Can I create my
own towns and dungeons?======
Yes and no. You control the shape, where
treasures are, and etc., but you cannot port in dungeon graphics made
with Anime Maker. You are limited to the dungeon, map, and town graphics
already in the game, but there are simply TONS of graphics that will
work for every genre.
=====Are there preset
rooms/dungeons at my disposal?=====
Yes! This is a nice time saving feature
that will allow you to load up an environment if you don't feel like
making it yourself. Very handy indeed!
======Can you switch
Charaters you want to control?======
Yes.
======Can you customize
what people say?======
ALL of the dialogue is controlled by you.
This includes cut scenes, what the townspeople say to you, and
everything else you can think of.
======Can I make cut
scenes?======
Yes. You can even control certain events,
like the screen flashing or shaking, but no specifics are known right
now.
=What's the most
characters I can have in a party at one time=
You can have 4 at most in your party at
one time.
=Can I have portraits
next to the text when the characters talk?=
No, you can't.
======What are you
getting out of this?======
I thrive on creativity, and all sorts. I
think creativity in video games hasn't reached its full potential, and
these "maker" games are a big step for us gamers, especially
if we want a future career in the video game industry.
